Pittrice inglese, Mary è figlia di George Barret il Vecchio, pittore di paesaggi, e sorella di George Barret il Giovane, pittore di paesaggi e disegnatore, con il quale vive.

Allieva di Mrs Mee, quindi di George Romney nel 1797, abita a Londra nel quartiere di Paddington. Tra il 1797 e il 1835 espone alla Royal Academy.

Dipinge nature morte ad acquerello, frutta, uccelli e pesci. Esegue anche numerosi ritratti in miniatura.

Probabilmente è lei che in The Exeter Flying Post del 2/5/1799 pubblica un annuncio in cui si dichiara capace di eseguire entro un minuto miniature di profilo.

Nel 1823 diventa membro della Old Water Colour Society e con questa istituzione espone dal 1823 al 1836 (anche nature morte).

Muore nel 1836.
