Cloud computing, innovation for companies in the logistics sector

The logistics sector has great potential for both development and employment; the growing demand for just-in-time deliveries and the increase in transport environmental costs, however, make clear the need for more efficient interoperability between logistics centers.
To achieve this result, often hampered by the high transaction costs due to the different standards of management programs, it is possible to rely on the latest technological innovations and especially on cloud computing.
Logical is born from these assumptions. It is a project financed by the Central Europe territorial cooperation Programme and promoted by the main logistics hubs of Central Europe. The goal is to improve logistics efficiency through competitiveness, reduce the transaction costs and promote a sustainable transport system. The project, which began in October 2011 and will end in May 2014, is planning to develop and implement computerized tools for the management of SMEs’ logistics, which will be able to derive the greatest benefits from cloud computing.

The international conference was organized by the Province of Bologna to talk about problems and solutions for security and data usage, highlighting how small businesses can use cloud computing and, in the afternoon session, focus on case studies on IT innovation in logistics services.
